Peckham Settlement Membership
Become a member
Anyone who has an interest in the work of the Settlement is invited to join as a member. Most of our current members are local people or people who have volunteered at the Settlement over the years. Members receive our newsletter published three times a year and are invited to members’ meetings and social and educational events. Members also and can enjoy free access to our computer suite (within our Community Centre on Goldsmith Road in Peckham). At first everyone who becomes a member will be granted associate membership which gives all of the benefits described above. Then after a year of active involvement with the Settlement, this will be extended to full membership which allows you to vote at the Settlement’s Annual General Meeting. At the AGM, Members receive the Settlement’s annual report and accounts and elect the Executive Committee (Board of Trustees). As a member you are also eligible to put yourself forward for election.
The Membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March and costs just £10 per year. If you would like to become a member, please call Marie Canty on 020 7639 1823 or email her at marie.canty@peckhamsettlement.org.uk
Founding schools
The Peckham Settlement started in 1896 when a group of girls’ public schools formed the Union of Girls’ Schools for Social Service (UGSS) – the original name of the Settlement. In the early years the founding schools provided many volunteers and financial support. We maintain many of these historic links with the Founding Schools and Alumni/School Associations who were instrumental in the formation and running of the Settlement. Both current students and members of the various Alumni Associations are still involved through being members, raising money or volunteering. The schools that we have active links with are listed below. If you would like to re-establish your own school’s links with the Settlement, please contact our Link Trustee for Schools and Alumni Associations, Caroline Gleave either by writing to her at the Peckham Settlement or by sending an email to supportingschools@peckhamsettlement.org.uk
